Job training
I jointed the department in 1975 as a firefighter. I worked my way up the ranks to Assistant Chief. I also was an Engineer, Firefighter II, Emergency Rescue Technician, Emergency Medical Technician, Hazmat Awareness, PADI Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver.
In 2002 I suffered a major stroke that left me unable to walk and talk. Because of my wife, son and the whole family I leaned how to walk and talk all over again. I once again worked full time at the Champaign County Forest Preserve with now I have been for 38 years. I stayed on the department for another 4 years as Safety Officer. I retired from the department after spending nearly 32 years. I ran for Trustee in 2007 and was elected to serve a 6 year term. I ran for re-election in 2013 and was re-elected to serve another 6 year term. I became Secretary in 2007 to 2011. I became President in 2011 to present time. I think of the Cornbelt Fire Protection District as my second home. My dad was a charter member when the district was formed 1953. He is in the picture taken in 1954. My son was a third generation firefighter with the department until he moved to Fisher, Illinois. I my 11 years as Trustee I have seen major changes including day and night shifts, addition to the station, remodel of the station, and other things that are on the horizon. We are proud of the citizens and protect all of them like they were family. I am so proud to be associated with this great fire department.
